Think on These Things

Parent’s Corner- September 16, 2018

 

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.”  Philippians 4:8

 

True, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable. . . The one place where all of these are found in one place is in the pages of Scripture!  As you spend time in the Scriptures this week, join me in asking the Lord for wisdom to discernment and understand the truth, and for us to be able to pass it along to our kids!  Depending on their ages, tell them what you have read, ask them what they have read, or read it together.  It is so important for them to understand that the Bible is a book for every day, not just for Sunday! 

May the Lord bless your parenting this week!

2/3s-  Moses: Exodus

Scripture-  Exodus 14, 15:1-21

Lesson Truth-  God is powerful!

Aims for the Children-  To do at least one of the following during this lesson:

1.     Act out the Bible story

2.     Participate in various celebration activities

3.     Thank God for his power

 

4s-K- God Promises to Bless or Curse

Scripture-  Deuteronomy 11;28

Lesson Goal-  Students will see the promised results of obedience and disobedience.

Bible Truths-

1.     God promised to bless Israel as long as they were obedient.

2.     God had blessed Israel for their obedience in the past.

3.     God promised to curse Israel if they were disobedient.

4.     There are consequences for sin and disobedience today, too.

Key Verse- “Behold I set before. You today and blessing and a curse:  the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God. . . and the curse, if you do not obey.”

Scripture- Deuteronomy 11;28

Lesson Objectives- Students will be able to

1.     Explain what would happen if Israel obeyed or disobeyed.

2.     Recall blessings that God gave Israel for past obedience.

3.     Describe the consequences of disobedience for Israel.

4.     Identify consequences for obedience and disobedience today.

Children’s Church-  Jesus is Worshiped

Scripture-  Matthew 2

Lesson Goal-  The child will worship Jesus as King

Bible Truths-

1.     The wise men came to worship Jesus.

2.     God rescued His Son from Herod.

3.     The wise men worshiped Jesus and Herod tried to kill Him.

Key Verse- “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?  For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”  Matthew 2:2
