Parent’s Corner- March 10, 2019

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:26 

Reminders. We all need them!  Some reminders are written or verbal.  My calendar is full of written details I need to remember. . . dates, times addresses, items to bring to an event.   I have electronic “sticky notes” covering my computer screen so I can have an easy place to write down reminders to myself. . . which teacher needs additional curriculum, which class needs an additional volunteer, what do I need to do next week.  I often call out reminders to my kids as they walk out the door. . . you have an orthodontist appointment after school!  Remember to bring home your gym clothes! 

Some reminders are visual.  We can be reminded of something when we see a particular item or object.  When I was in college, we had a chapel speaker that encouraged us to remember Christ’s sacrifice for us every time we saw the red feathers on a robin’s chest.  For whatever reason, that image really stuck with me.  I remember it to this day.  Every time I see a robin I am reminded of Christ’s great sacrifice of love on the cross. 

We all have things we need to remember. . . Scripture verses, the promises of God, family goals and values. . . If you’re anything like me, we can use all of the prompting we can get!  These can also serve as good reminders to our kids.  They often do well “hanging” a thought on a mental hook that is easily accessible and easily or often seen.  What does that look like in your family?

Scripture- Luke 17:11-19

Lesson Truth- Jesus wants us to thank him for everything he gives us.

Aims for the Children- to do at least one of the following during the lesson:

1.     Tell what the nine lepers forgot to do

2.     Tell how Jesus feels when we forget to thank him for the things he gives us

3.     Mention some things we should thank Jesus for

4.     Thank Jesus for something

 

4s-K, 1st-2nd, 3rd-5th- God makes a covenant with David

Scripture- 2 Samuel 7:1-29

Principle- We can rejoice and trust in God’s gracious promises.

Ask Your Child- What promise did God make to David and his family?

Apply- by trusting that God keeps His promises.

This Week- As a family, read 2 Samuel 7:1-29

Children’s Church- Jesus Endures the Cross

Scripture- Matthew 27:27-66

Lesson Goal- Students will worship Jesus Christ for dying for sin and giving access to God.

Bible Truths-

1.     Jesus was mocked.

2.     Jesus died on the cross.

3.     Jesus died for sinners.

Key Verse- “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up His spirit.  Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.”  Matthew 27:50-51a
