Parent’s Corner- April 28, 2019

“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it on my own.  But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:13-14 ESV

My son is a distance runner.  The other day, he was explaining his plan for each of the laps of his next mile in an effort to meet his goal.  Depending on the lap, he either needed to maintain or improve his time, catch up to the runner ahead of him, or distance himself from the one behind.  Each race he has been a little bit faster than the one before.  Slowly but surely, he is getting closer to his goal.  He is learning from the earlier races, but he is focused on the one ahead.

How true of the Christian life!

Have we made mistakes in our past?  Yes.  All of us have.

Have we learned valuable lessons in our past?  Again, yes.  Everyone has learned something.

Can these lessons be applied to our future?  Absolutely!

When we fix our eyes on Jesus, we can have our focus on what truly matters. . . serving and glorifying the Lord.

When we allow our children to see our focus on Jesus, we are teaching them as well.  A double blessing.  And sometimes, we can learn from them!  Perhaps its humbling, but its equally powerful.

May you find joy in your parenting journey this week!
