Building a Foundation
Parent’s Corner- September 15, 2019
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24
A room of pre schoolers. A pile of blocks. A couple of kids building a tower.
What happens next? Anyone who has spent time with a group of kids can tell you. . . the tower gets knocked down! What happens to the sand castle that is built on the beach during low tide? It gets washed away when the tide comes in. These structures were not stable because they did not have a firm foundations. Both of these scenarios are solidly in the wheelhouse of nearly every child. May they take this knowledge, and desire to establish a firm foundation for their lives. . . one built on the promises and truth of God’s Word. Thank you for sharing that truth with them this week!
This week in Sunday School. . .
2/3s- Moses and the Burning Bush
Scripture- Exodus 2-4
Lesson Truth- Moses obeyed (said yes to) God.
Aims for the Children- to do at least one of the following during this lesson:
1. Tell what God wanted Moses to do
2. Tell how Moses finally answered God
4s-K, 1st-2nd, 3rd-5th- Jesus Overcomes Temptation
Scripture- Luke 4:1-13
Principle- Only Jesus is righteous enough to take away the punishment for your sin.
Ask Your Child- How did Jesus responds to Satan’s temptation in words and actions?
Apply- By trusting God’s Word when he or she is tempted to sin.
This Week- As a family, read Luke 4:1-13
Next Week- mark 1:16-20
Children’s Church- Man Rebels Against God
Scripture- Genesis 2-3
Lesson Goal- Students will understand that God will punish those who don’t obey Him.
Bible Truths-
1. God told Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and He promised a penalty if they disobeyed.
2. Adam and Eve chose to sin against God.
3. Sin is disobeying god.
4. God promised to one day send someone to destroy Satan. That person would be Jesus.
Key Verse- “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die’” (Genesis 2:16-17).
