Parent’s Corner- January 12, 2020

 

“Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.”

Follow the leader is a popular game with kids.  It can take on many forms, but one element is pretty consistent. . . everyone wants to be the leader!  Many a lesson on taking turns and sharing has been taught, and hopefully caught during games like this.  An important lesson to learn outside of this game is that we cannot be the leader of our own life.  We need to rely on God to guide and instruct us in the way we should go. As you disciple your kids, be sure they see and know how the Lord leads you in your life.  Lord willing. . . they will desire that for their own life, and will seek to serve and follow Him as well!

 

This Week in Sunday School. . .

 

2s and 3s- Who is this Child?  The Story of Jesus in the Temple

Scripture- Luke 2:41-52

Lesson Truth- Jesus loved his parents.

Aims for the Children- to do at least one of the following during the lesson

1.     Affirm that Jesus was once a child like they are, but special- God’s own Son.

2.     Tell how Jesus’ mother and father loved him and took care of him.

3.     Sing songs of praise to God for families.

 

4s-K, 1st-2nd, 3rd-5th- Jesus Defines Discipleship

Scripture- Mark 8:27-38

Principle- The cost of following Jesus is denying oneself and following Him.

Ask Your Child- What does it mean to die to yourself, pick up your cross and follow Christ?

Apply- By denying himself or herself, taking up his or her cross, and following Christ.

This Week- As a family, read Mark 8:27-38.

Next Week- Luke 9:27-36

 

Children’s Church- God Tests Abraham

Scripture- Genesis 22:1-19, Hebrews 11:17-19

Lesson Goal- Students will understand that we should trust God completely and obey His Word above all else.

Bible Truths-

1.     God tested Abraham by asking him to sacrifice Isaac.

2.     Abraham trusted God to provide the sacrifice.

3.     Abraham loved God more than he loved Isaac.

Key Verse- “And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.” Genesis 15:6

Application-

1.     Expect God to test your faith.

2.     Obey God’s Word no matter the cost.

3.     Trust that God will help you obey.

4.     Pray for His help in times of testing.
