Parent’s Corner- January 30, 2022

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”  Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV

Our lessons this week illustrate the statement above very clearly.  Jesus loved the woman that no one else would offer the time of day.  God chose Jacob over Esau to accomplish his purposes in his own timing.  God worked outside of what man would consider “right” or “appropriate”.  Who are we to question God?  His ways are perfect, and ours are not.  What a comfort to trust in the Lord whose ways are perfect, and learn from His example.  What can we do this week to trust God more, and love others more like He does?  How can we learn to choose His way before our own?  These passages offer some great instruction!

This week in Sunday School. . . 

2s and 3s- The Samaritan Woman

Scripture- John 4:3-30, 39-42

Lesson Truth- Jesus loves all kinds of people

Aims for the Children- to do at least one of the following during the lesson:

1. give evidence of understanding the contrast between the way some people treated the woman and the way Jesus treated her

2. demonstrate how Jesus made the Samaritan woman feel

3. indicate how they feel because Jesus loves them

4. tell what kinds of people Jesus loves (all kinds!)

4s-K, 1st-2nd, 3rd-5th- God Chooses Jacob Over Esau

Scripture- Genesis 25:21-26; 27:1-29

Principle- God sovereignly chooses whomever He wants to accomplish His purposes.

Ask Your Child- Which brother did God choose to receive the birthright?

Apply- By patiently waiting for God’s timing.

This Week- As a family, read Genesis 25:21-26; 27:1-29

Next Week- Genesis Genesis 32-33

Children’s Church- God establishes the priesthood

Scripture- Leviticus 8:1-10:8

Principle- Man needs a mediator to come before God.

Ask Your Child- What happened to the two priests who disobeyed God’s commands?

Apply- By worshiping God with the right attitudes and actions.

This Week- as a family, read Leviticus 9:22-10:8

Next Week- Leviticus 11-16
