Parent’s Corner- March 13, 2022

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

My parents taught me many things when I was growing up. . . how to clean my room, how to throw and catch a football, and how to cultivate a love of reading, just to name a few.  One lesson that was especially ingrained in my mind was the importance of writing thank you notes when we received a gift or were given a special experience from someone else.  As kids, we were expected to write a thank you note for birthday and Christmas gifts before we were allowed to use them.  While the desire to play with the toy or wear the sweater was probably our primary motivating factor early on, we really did grow to look forward to expressing our gratitude and thanks to the giver.

When we consider that God is the giver of all good gifts, we should especially remember to thank Him!

What are you thankful for today?  This is an exercise that we often do around Thanksgiving, but it is something that is helpful to adjust our perspective all year!  Take some time to make a list of what you are thankful for today.  Do you need to thank a person?  Do you need to thank the Lord?  Giving thanks is a great way to show gratitude to and love for others!
