This Passion Week, the Kerdos College & 20s group is hosting a simple Maundy Thursday service of Scripture, song, supplication, and the Lord’s Supper. All are welcome to join us, as we replay the events of Jesus’ final night with his disciples in preparation for Good Friday and Easter. We hope to see you in the Fireside Room on Thursday, April 13, at 7pm.
On this day we continue in this season of preparation, repentance, and longing for the work of God promised in Christ. Our hearts are being prepared for the events leading up to the crucifixion and look forward to the resurrection and crowning of our King, Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 13:12-17, 34
When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. . . . A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."
What does "Maundy" mean?
Maundy is derived from the Latin "mandatum" (also the origin of the English word "mandate"). It is used in John 13:34, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another" (John 13:34). "Mandatum" is the word for "commandment." In that verse, Jesus explains why he washed the feet of the disciples and the significance of him doing so (Wikipedia).
