O Lord of My Salvation (Psalm 88)

Words/Music: Daryle Worley, III, 2023
First shared on Good Friday

How long? How long?
How long, O Lord, how long?

O Lord of my salvation
I cry out night and day
Let my prayer come before You
O, turn Your ear to me
My soul is full of sorrows
as I draw near to death
Already I am counted
With corpses in the pit

O LORD of my salvation,
No strength is left to sing
I lie alone and silent,
Have You forgotten me?
Your wrath descends upon me
In overwhelming waves
I cry aloud for mercy:
"O, my Salvation, save!"

Do dead men rise to praise You?
Do corpses sing Your fame?
Are songs about Your kindness
resounding from the grave?
Are wonders known in darkness?
Is justice known in pain?
Is righteousness revealed in fields
of long forgotten names?

Yet still I call upon You;
Why do You hide Your face?
Your wrath it has undone me
What more can I sustain?
You’ve caused my friends to shun me
There’s none to ease my pain
My only friend is darkness,
He’s not forsaken me
