Q is for Quiet
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
In most households, “quiet” is a relative term. When I was a young child, we had an hour of quiet time after lunch. If my mom heard any noises, the hour started over! (That only happened a few times, and of course it was my brother’s fault!) ; ) Today, as I sit and type, there are many sounds in our home I can hear the washing machine spinning, the dish washer humming, my husband on a phone call in the room below mine, one son in virtual class, and another making his breakfast in the kitchen. In some cases, if things are too quiet, that is when a parent is alarmed!
Being still. . . it is entirely possible that someone can be sitting still, while their mind is completely racing! Did I make that appointment? Did I remember to tell this person that piece of information? Did I remember everything at the grocery store? Is my child/sibling/parent ok? What will happen if. . . ???
Being still in one’s mind allows the focus to be placed on God, His Power, and His provision for the question or situation at hand. We can be still, know that God is in control, and trust Him to handle whatever is on our minds on any given day. That freedom from mental static is a true blessing that gives the sense of peace that God wants for us. . . living with the knowledge that He is in charge, and trusting Him with our thoughts, concerns, and worries. God is faithful. God can be trusted. We can be still in knowing that truth!
