I Am the LORD (Ezekiel 20)

Words/Music: Daryle Worley, III, 2024
Shared on April 21, 2024 in advance of preaching on Ezekiel 20:1–23:49.

When I saved your fathers by a mighty hand,
There I said, “I am the LORD”
And when Moses led you in the wilderness
There you learned I am the LORD

When I gave my good Word
There, at Sinai, this you heard:
“If you keep my statutes and you walk in them,
You will live: I am the LORD.”

Be not as your captors there in Egypt land
Nor like Canaan, where you go
Live as pure and sanctified by God on high
In your deeds and in your words

Yet you scoffed my promises upon the heights
Bowing down to wood and ore
And you sold your innocence to all the earth;
Laying down to play the whore

See, I do not punish for your father’s sins
Nor his righteousness reward
I account and deal with every soul alone
Turn and live! I am the LORD

Here I give my good Word
On my mountain you will serve
When I call and gather you from every land
You will know I am the LORD

Turn and live! I am the LORD
You will live: I am the LORD
