For This Child I Have Prayed
Parent’s Corner- May 26, 2019
“For this child, I have prayed and the Lord has granted the desires of my heart.” 1 Samuel 1:27 ESV
First and foremost, forgive me for taking a verse completely out of context for my own literary purposes! It is just so fitting! This verse is most often used in reference to the Lord granting the prayers of a woman to have a child. That was certainly as it was originally intended in 1 Samuel! In my life, however, this past weekend, it directly applied to my oldest son as he graduated from High School.
The other day, we were reflecting on some of the prayers we have prayed. . . for safety, for comfort, for strength, for encouragement, for wisdom. . . often, we could directly point to the way in which the Lord answered our prayers. They weren’t always answered in the way we prayed, but God faithfully gave his answer in each one. It was a powerful moment to recount the faithfulness of the Lord in one life, and to illustrate the power of prayer.
I’m sure your children know you pray for them, but it can be a powerful testimony to share those prayers, as well as God’s answers with them. This could be a powerful step in their decision to trust the Lord with their own life!
May you find joy in your parenting this week!
