Telephone
Parent’s Corner- August 11, 2019
Have you ever played Telephone. . . the game where a person whispers something in the ear of another, then the message is passed from person to person to the end of the line? The fun comes in seeing how clearly, or not, the message was passed from one to another. More times than not, the end has little to do with the original message.
Isn’t it wonderful that we have direct access to the “original message”? In the Bible, we can read for ourselves the accounts of Abraham, Ezra, Revelation and everything in between. As soon as your kids are able, encourage them to read the Bible for themselves, and even read the Bible to you! What a sweet time of fellowship between parent and child. . . reading the Scriptures and dwelling on the Good News together. Now that is time well spent!
This week in Sunday School. . .
2/3s- Abraham
Scripture- Genesis 12:1-9
Lesson Truth- Abraham listened to God and obeyed.
Aims for the Children- to do at least one of the following during this lesson:
1. Tell what God asked Abraham to do
2. Show how Abraham responded
3. Demonstrate what it means to listen and obey
4. Tell how they obey others
4s-K, 1st-2nd, 3rd-5th- The Book of Ezra
Scripture- Ezra 1-10
Principles- Believers respond to the blessing of worship by submitting their heart to God. Believers repent when they see God’s goodness and their sin.
Ask your child- How did God fulfill Jeremiah’s Prophesy? How did God reveal Hid goodness to Ezra?
Apply- By worshiping God with a rejoicing heart and by studying, obeying, and teaching God’s Word.
This week- the book of Ezra
Next week- Nehemiah 1-7
Children’s Church- God Will Judge at the Great White Throne
Scripture- Revelation 20:1-15
Lesson Goal- The child will understand the upcoming earthly kingdom of Christ and will realize the price of failing to believe in Him.
Bible Truths-
1. Satan and his followers will be bound for 1,000 years.
2. Jesus Christ will rule the earth for 1,000 years.
3. The dead will be judged at the Great White Throne of Judgement.
4. Everyone whose name is not found in the book of life will be cast into the lake of fire.
Key Verse- “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:15
Application-
1. Be encouraged that Satan will one day be done away with.
2. Escape God’s judgment by trusting in Christ.
3. Eagerly share the gospel with others who are not saved.
