Obedience and Patience
Parent’s Corner- August 2, 2020
“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23 ESV
Obedience.
Patience.
I believe that most parents would agree that teaching their children obedience and patience are right up there on the list of character traits to work on. If we’re honest, how many of us adults continue to struggle with these concepts as well? I know I do.
God in His wisdom reminds us over and over again of the importance of these two concepts. Why?
… because it reminds us that He is in control. And we are not.
…because He is the ultimate authority on right and pure living. Not us.
… because He controls the master plan. Not us.
When we obey and patiently wait on God’s timing, what is the result? Peace! God’s perfect peace! When we obey, we can know that God has the best plan for our lives. When we are patient with that plan, we can have peace in knowing that God’s Will will be done in His timing.
I could use more peace in my life right now. How about you? As you share these lessons with your child(ren), pray the same prayers for yourself. There are so many unknowns in our current time. . . but God knows them all. He is still in control, He still sees us, and He still loves us.
Blessings on your week this week, my friends!
This week in Sunday school. . .
2s/3s- A Rainy, Rainy Day- The Story of Noah and the Flood
Scripture- Genesis 6-7:16
Lesson Truth- Noah obeyed God.
Aims for the Children- to do at least one of the following during this lesson:
1. Dramatize the story
2. Tell how Noah obeyed God
3. Tell how they obey
4. Thank God for saving Noah
Additional activities-
1. Build a boat! Can it float in the bathtub? Even better!
2. Practice bringing animals to the ark. Even the animals entered in an orderly fashion.
3. Most importantly, this lesson is about Noah’s obedience. That can be practiced in games like Simon Says, giving directions to someone blindfolded, practicing a new skill or task, etc.
4. Animal crackers would be a perfect snack to accompany this lesson!
4s-5th Grade- John testifies to the exalted Jesus.
Scripture- Revelation 1:1-20
Principle- Though trials and sufferings come, Jesus Christ continues to live, reign, and be faithful to His church.
Central Truth- When trouble comes, stand firm in Jesus.
Ask Your Child- Why was Christ’s message to John and the seven churches encouraging?
Apply- By submitting to Jesus, who reigns as King and Lord over the entire universe.
This Week- As a family, read Revelation 1:1-20
Next Week- Revelation 5:1-14
